Four-Goal Third Period Lifts McGill Over Princeton in Exhibition Game

PRINCETON, N.J. (10/6/13) - The Princeton women's hockey team lost a 4-1 exhibition game to McGill University on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Hobey Baker Rink.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second period, but a four-goal third period incuding a hat trick by Gabrielle Davidson gave the Martlets the win.

Freshman Kelsey Koelzer put Princeton on top with a power-play goal at 5:55. The Tigers worked the puck around the zone and senior Gabie Figueroa took a shot from the right point. Freshman Hilary Lloyd tried to redirect out front before getting tripped up with a defender, but Koelzer dove it and pushed the puck over the line.

Jordan McDonell, sister of Princeton's Jaimie, evened the game with a power-play goal at 8:49 of the third period.

Davidson collected a natural hat trick scoring the game winner at 10:14, her second goal at 14:07, and icing the game wiht an empty-net goal with 44 seconds left.

McGill had a slight edge in shots 18-14 and was 1 for 6 on the power play. Princeton was 1 for 4.

Sophomore Kimberly Newell made 14 saves in goal for the Tigers, while Taylor Hough stopped 13 for the Martlets.

Princeton will face Brown in a scrimmage on Oct. 19 in Providence, R.I., before opening the season at Dartmouth on Oct. 25.
