TROY, N.Y. (11/9/12) - The Princeton women's hockey team earned its first league win of the season, 6-5, in a back-and-forth affair against Rensselaer at Houston Field House on Friday night.

Junior Olivia Mucha had a three-point effort in just her second game of the season, scoring twice and adding an assist. Senior Corey Stearns chipped in three assists. Freshman Molly Contini scored twice, while junior Sally Butler and senior Alex Kinney had a goal and an assist apiece.

The Tigers were 3 for 5 on the power play and 2 for 4 on the penalty kill.

RPI took the lead just 1:05 into the game when freshman Lauren Wash scored from the high slot. Princeton tied the score just 2:09 later when Butler knocked in a loose puck on a delayed penalty to the Engineers. Contini scored her first collegiate goal on a 5x3 power play just 1:22 later and the Tigers did not trail the rest of the game.

Eleeza Cox tied it with a power play goal at 10:38, but Mucha put Princeton back in front before the first period was through.

Mucha would answer RPI again in the second when Alexa Gruschow scored to even the game at 3-3 before Mucha scored on the power play to give Princeton the 4-3 advantage.

The two teams traded goals one more time in the second period, before the Engineers tied it for the fourth time early in the third period. Senior Kristen Jakubowski wristed a shot into the goal at the 2:51 mark.

Contini scored the game winner at 8:11 of the third with help from freshman Maddie Peake and this time RPI could not find the equalizer.

Taylor Horton  had three assists for RPI, while Wash and Cox had a goal and an assist each.

Kimberly Newell made 25 saves in the win for Princeton. Brianna Piper made 16 saves in the first 37:51 before Kelly O'Brien came in on relief in the second period. O'Brien finished out the night making six saves and allowing just one goal.

The Tigers face Union, tomorrow, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m.
