BARRINGTON, R.I. -- Finishing with a second-round 73 Monday, Princeton sophomore Kelly Shon claimed medalist honors at the Brown Invitational women's golf tournament, making her the first Tiger with back-to-back tournament wins since October 2008.
Shon had a first-round 71 Sunday at Rhode Island Country Club to finish at even par atop the 57-player field. Shon was one of three Tigers playing as individuals in the tournament, along with Wonji Choi (83-79 +18) and Christine Kong (88-88 +32).
A year ago, Shon had a 71 and 74 at the event to finish in second place, eight shots behind runaway winner Harin Lee of St. John's. This year, Lee was the runner up, finishing three shots back of Shon. Both sophomores, Shon and Lee also hail from places mere miles apart, Shon in Port Washington, Long Island, and Lee from Bayside, Queens.
Shon also won the Low Country Intercollegiate last month to become the first Princeton player since Susannah Aboff '09 to win two straight tournaments.
Princeton's next event will be the Ivy League Championship on the final weekend of April.
