PRINCETON - Open crew head coach Lori Dauphiny felt the preseason rankings were "for entertainment purposes only," despite the fact that Princeton held the No. 1 ranking. Brown and Michigan found nothing entertaining during the Tigers' season opener, as Princeton sprinted past both Top-10 opponents for a comfortable victory.

Choppy waters, a headwind and a cool, crisp morning might not have made for ideal conditions, but Princeton was plenty strong enough to overcome. The top varsity boat, which contained four rowers from the 2004 Eastern champion and six rowers from the 2005 NCAA silver medalist, finished in a winning time of 7:00.9. Brown took second in 7:10.2, while Michigan placed third in 7:21.1.

Princeton also claimed wins in the varsity four (8:26.9) and the novice 8 (7:15.0). The 10.9-second win for the novice boat also had to leave Dauphiny feeling good; she considers the novice crew 'the foundation of the program,' and another strong novice boat could indicate more immediate success in the coming years.

The deep Brown squad claimed wins in the second varsity eight and second novice.

Princeton will host Rutgers, Columbia and Georgetown next Saturday at Lake Carnegie, beginning at 11 a.m.
