There will be time to focus on the future — May 18, in particular. On Saturday, the seventh-ranked open women closed the regular season with a victory, and then honored both the past four years of the Class of 2014 and the past 25 years of head coach Lori Dauphiny.

Princeton defeated another set of Tigers (Clemson) in all four races Saturday morning during Senior Day on Lake Carnegie. The varsity eight improved to 8-2 on the year by finishing in 6:06.8, more than 13 seconds faster than Clemson. The 2V finished its own undefeated season by defeating Clemson by nearly 19 seconds.

The varsity four, which has shown strong improvement since its near comeback win against Yale, picked up its third straight victory by about six seconds over Clemson. The third varsity eight won by more than 24 seconds to earn its seventh win of the season.

It was the perfect day, and the perfect conditions, for the senior class to complete their racing careers on Lake Carnegie.

"Rowing for Princeton is truly a privilege," senior Kathryn Irwin said. "We have one of the most beautiful boathouses in the country and our own lake all on campus. On top of that, the boathouse is home to an extremely supportive rowing community including athletes, coaches, faculty and alumni. I could not be happier to win my final race on Carnegie surrounded by my teammates and coaches who have taught me so much and helped me develop as an athlete and a person over the past four years."

Following the race, Princeton honored its Class of 2014 (pictured, above), and then dedicated a boat to head coach Lori Dauphiny, the two-time National Coach of the Year. Dauphiny has led Princeton to five Ivy League Championships, including two of the last three, and her varsity boat won the NCAA Championship in both 2006 and 2011. Her presence was felt in the 2012 London Games, when five former open rowers competed in the Olympics.

“Lori has been a huge part of my Princeton career and I would not be the rower I am today without her coaching and guidance,” senior Maggie Cochrane said. “She has cemented an amazing legacy of coaching here at Princeton and I am so fortunate to have been able to develop under her expertise. I don’t think I would have been able to reach this level of athleticism without her and her dedication to our team and our success is unwavering.”

As for the Class of 2014, Princeton honored its 13 members, including a large number who will be competing in the Tigers top four boats at the upcoming Ivy League Championships.

"The fact that the senior class is so large really speaks to the girls who came before us," Irwin said. "The classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 all set the bar high in terms of dedication to the sport. They also fostered an inclusive and supportive environment on the team, setting an example for us both on and off the water.

"Today was a special day–the team stepped up and raced ferociously to honor the senior class and Lori," she added. "I am definitely soaking it up this weekend, but on Monday all our attention turns to gearing up for a successful Ivy League Championship."
