SEASON PREVIEW (with video)

Despite the challenging conditions, the third-ranked Princeton men's lightweight rowing team opened its season in victorious fashion Saturday morning on Lake Carnegie. Princeton swept a trio of races, and it retained the The Fosburgh Cup with a 23-second win over 11th-ranked Georgetown.

"There were tough conditions for our first race, but it went well," head coach Marty Crotty said. "Because of some recent results in this Cup race we can't take anything for granted with Georgetown. All of our boats did a good job of establishing their rhythm early and kept things consistent over the entire 2000m. We worked hard building base fitness and engraining proper fundamentals over the winter."

The varsity eight claimed victory for the Fosburgh Cup in 6:14.7, more than 23 seconds faster than Georgetown's time of 6:37.8.

Crotty also saw impressive performances from the rest of the roster. Both his 2V (6:27.6) and 3V (6:34.1) posted strong efforts in a win over the Georgetown 2V. The Tiger 4V was also victorious in 6:47.9.

"We have plenty of things to continue to work on but today was a good start to the season," Crotty said. "I'm happy for the freshmen, who made up the better part of our 3V today and some of the 4V, that they did well in their first ever sprint race for Princeton."

Princeton will return to the water next weekend, when it competes for the Murtaugh Cup against Navy; the race, rescheduled from last weekend, will include Columbia and will take place in Teaneck, N.J.
