SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (1/10/14) - Freshman Cassidy Tucker scored for the Princeton women's hockey team to make it a one-goal game but it wasn't enough as Union won 2-1 at Messa Rink on Friday, Jan. 10.

The Tigers have seen themselves with a two-goal deficit at Messa Rink before, in 2010 when they rallied for a 3-2 overtime victory. This time, however, Princeton (9-8-2, 6-6-1 ECAC) couldn't get the tying goal it needed, losing to Union (8-12-1, 3-6 ECAC) for the first time in series history.

After a scoreless first period, A power-play goal by Stefanie Thomson at 2:26 put the Dutchwomen on the board and Kathryn Tomaselli made it a 2-0 game less than two minutes later at 4:06.

Tucker made it a one-goal game at 15:06 of the third period. Sophomore Jaimie McDonell found freshman Hilary Lloyd who fed Tucker for a backhand for the 2-1 score.

Princeton battled to get the tying goal but Union netminder Shena Lundberg was solid down the stretch. With 1:12 remaining the Tigers used an extra skater but Brianna Leahy hit a pipe, Ali Pankowski had two shots blocked, Rose Alleva shot wide and Sally Butler was stuffed by Lundberg.

Lundberg finished the game with 28 saves while the team blocked 27 other shots. Princeton's Kimberly Newell made 21.

The Tigers look to get back on track tomorrow at Rensslaer when the teams face off at 4 p.m.
