Cornell Edges Tiger Lights To Reclaim Platt Cup; Freshmen Win Harriett Cup
When the latest men's lightweight national poll came out, both Princeton and Cornell shared the fourth position. After Saturday morning, it was clear that the margin between those two teams is razor thin. Cornell reclaimed the Platt Cup Saturday morning by edging the Tigers by .3 of a second on Bud Smith Memorial Race Course on Lake Carnegie.
Cornell won three of four races during the morning regatta, though Princeton won the Harriett Cup, which goes to the winner of the first freshman race.
Cornell won its first Platt Cup since 2007 and cut the all-time series deficit to 36-13 by winning the varsity eight race in 5:52.6. Princeton, which fell to 2-2 on the season, took second in 5:52.9.
The Cornell 2V was also impressive in victory, posting a winning time of 6:01.8. Princeton took second in 6:09.4.
The Princeton freshman eight remained undefeated on the season with a winning time of 6:05.2, while Cornell placed second in 6:11.9.
Princeton will remain home next weekend to take on both Penn and Georgetown in the Wood-Hammond Cup regatta.
