Final Stats

Chris Bates summed up an entire two hour lacrosse game in four comments from the first two paragraphs of his time in the Carrier Dome interview room.

Of the winning goal - "It was a thing of beauty."

Of how Syracuse took the lead late in the third- "It's a game of momentum."

Of what his overall thought was - "I think we let it get away a little."

And the bottom line - "Their locker room is happy."

And basically, that summed up Syracuse's 10-9 win over Princeton, a win that snapped a two-game losing streak for the Orange and ended a four-game winning streak for the Tigers. A crowd of 4,629 watched Princeton's first game in the Carrier Dome since 2008.

Princeton is now 6-3 on the season as its hosts Rutgers Tuesday at 7. SU, who is at Cornell Tuesday, is 5-4.

To expand a bit on what Bates said, Syracuse scored four goals in the final 1:45 of the third quarter and the snapped a 9-9 tie with a goal that was in face "a thing of beauty," as Tim Desko flipped an unsettled pass to Tommy Palasek, who caught it with his back to the Princeton goal and then flipped it just over the stick of Tyler Fiorito for the game-winner with 4:11 to go.

The winning goal came on one of Princeton's 19 turnovers, while SU turned it over only eight times.

Princeton led 3-0 midway through the first quarter, but nobody thought that this would be an easy day for the Tigers. It was a 5-3 game after Nick Fernandez scored the first of his career for the Tigers, but Palasek - who finished with four goals - got a big one for the Orange with seven seconds left in the first half.

Princeton led 7-5 and got a save from Fiorito as the third quarter wound under two minutes, but a failed clear led to a Bobby Eilers goal with 1:45 to go in the quarter, making it 7-6. By the time the quarter would end, it would be 9-7 Orange.

But the Tigers came right back, getting Jeff Froccaro's second goal and then the tying goal from Forest Sonnenfeldt, making it9-9 with 8:56 left.

Syracuse used its third starting goalie in nine games in freshman Bobby Werdwell, and he made nine saves, including a huge one of Tom Schreiber on a man-up opportunity with three minutes left. Princeton would have one more possession after that but could not get a shot off.

Froccaro and Schreiber had two goals each, while freshman Mike MacDonald had a goal and two assists.

Both shortstick defensive middies, Fernandez and Jack Strabo, had goals for Princeton.

Syracuse outshot Princeton 40-28.
