The third-ranked Princeton women’s lightweights have waited a long time to make their home debut, but they will finally compete on Lake Carnegie Saturday to complete a full morning of home competition for Princeton Rowing.
Princeton will begin back-to-back Cup competitions this weekend when it races for the Class of 2006 Cup against ninth-ranked Georgetown. Princeton is unbeaten in this rivalry, including all seven years when the Cup has been up for grabs. In their first race on Lake Carnegie, the Tigers have no interest in seeing that streak end.
“This is our first home race for the Spring season, so that’s always exciting,” said junior co-captain Becky Kreutter said during the recent edition of TigerCast. “The Class of 2006 Cup is one that we are always fighting hard to have.”
Princeton is coming off a victory in the Knecht Cup last weekend, and it is moving towards a showdown against No. 2 Harvard next weekend. But it is also focused on a progression towards the EAWRC Championships, held in three weeks at Cooper River.
Head coach Paul Rassam and the rest of the team is also looking forward to seeing his second varsity eight compete for the first time this season. Both eights will race at noon, when the Class of 2006 Cup will be on the line.
“The varsity eight has two races under our belt, but it’s also exciting to see the second varsity and the third varsity four get their first home race as well,” Kreutter said. “It will be great to see all of our boats get to compete against Georgetown.”
