Women's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight in 16-9 Win at SDSU
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (3/22/14) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team won its third straight game as it defeated San Diego State in the first meeting between the two teams on Saturday, March 22 at Cathedral Catholic High School.
Senior Mary-Kate Sivilli and sophomore Anya Gersoff both recorded hat tricks, while freshmen Anna Doherty, Olivia Hompe and sophomore Stephanie Paloscio scored twice each. Junior Annie Woehling improves to 3-0 in goal making seven stops as Princeton outshot SDSU 30-21.
The Aztecs cut the Princeton lead to just two, 6-4, with 2:20 to play in the first half with three straight goals.
Princeton answered scoring two goals in the final 33 seconds to take an 8-4 lead into the locker room.
SDSU opened the second on a 3-1 run to get within two, 9-7, with 17:43 on the clock.
The Tigers took over and scored five straight goals for a 14-7 edge. The teams traded two goals apiece in the final eight minutes, setting the score 16-9.
SDSU's Katrina Reeves made five saves and allowed nine in the first 36 minutes. She was replaced by Katie Merritt who did not make a save on seven shots in the final 24 minutes. Offensively the Aztecs were led by Meris Walsh's four goals as they fall to 6-2 overall.
Princeton now 4-3 on the season return to its Ivy League slate on Wednesday, March 26 when it travels to Columbia for a 7 p.m., game.
