Concordia Rematch Highlights Hall Of Fame Weekend For Men's Volleyball

The Princeton men's volleyball team will try to avenge an early-season loss to Concordia Friday night when it starts a weekend in Springfield, Mass., at the 2014 Hall of Fame Classic.

Princeton will take on Concordia at 6 pm Friday in the first semifinal. The winner takes on either host Springfield College or UC Santa Cruz in the Saturday evening championship match, while the other two teams will play in the consolation match.

The weekend gives Princeton an opportunity to develop a winning streak and some necessry momentum before a crucial two-week stretch when it plays six straight EIVA home matches. That stretch begins Feb. 25 against Rutgers-Newark, and will include matches against Penn State (Feb. 28) and Harvard (March 8).

Concordia won the first meeting, though it came in Princeton's second match of the season. The Eagles held off a late charge for a 15-13 win in the fifth set. Senior Pat Schwagler led Princeton with 20 kills and nine blocks during the match, while sophomore Devin Stearns added 14 kills and hit .429. Junior middle Will Siroky recorded 11 kills and seven blockss, and he hit .529 for the match. Both Cody Kessel and Junior Oboh added seven kills apiece, while Oboh posted a rare double-digit block performance (10).

Junior libero Tony Ensbury matched his career high with 17 digs, while senior Davis Waddell added 26 assists in the match.

A potential Princeton-Springfield final would bring together former EIVA rivals, though Springfield moved out of the league with the EIVA became a Division I conference only. Springfield is the reigning two-time Division III national champion, while Concordia is the reigning NAIA champion.
