PRINCETON, N.J. (1/7/13) - Princeton returns home for the first time since Nov. 22, after playing eight games and two exhibitions on the road. The Tigers host Rensselaer on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m., and Union on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. Following the Princeton/Union game will be Skate with the Tigers. Fans planning to participate in Skate with the Tigers are asked to click here and read updated guidelines for the event.

EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers were on the road Dec. 26-Jan. 5 when they travel to the Florida College Hockey Classic followed by a five-day trip to Vancouver playing in the Great Northwest Showcase against two Canadian teams.

Princeton is 3-14 overall after falling 4-0 to Maine and losing 3-2 to UNH in Florida. With a number of injured players back in the line-up the Tigers are looking to turn things around and they begin the second half of the season.

Junior Tucker Brockett sits atop the scoring column with 11 points on two goals and a team-best nine assists. Senior Andrew Ammon has scored the most goals, six, and adds two assists. Junior Aaron Kesselman and sophomore Jonathan Liau also have eight points apiece. Senior Sean Bonar has started in 10 of 17 games and has an .885 save percentage and a 3.82 goals against average. Freshman Colton Phinney has started in the other seven and has an .878 save percentage to go along with a 4.02 GAA.

THE PRINCETON/RENSSELAER SERIES
Princeton’s five-game unbeaten streak in the series came to an end in December when Rensselaer won a 5-2 game at Houston Field House. It marked RPI’s first win at home in the series since 2006. Overall the Engineers lead the series 64-32-10 since the teams first met in 1952. Senior Andrew Calof leads the team in scoring against RPI with seven goals and three assists in six games and a +7 rating. Senior Andrew Ammon also averages more than a point per game with five goals and two assists in six games with a +6. Senior Sean Bonar has played in goal four times against the Engineers and has a 3.29 GAA and an .883 save percentage. Freshman Colton Phinney saw just under 20 minutes of action in December’s meeting.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
Rensselaer is 8-8-4 on the season and is on a four-game winless slump. The team dropped matching 6-2 games to Ferris State and Minnesota at the Mariucci Classic this past weekend. The team went 0-1-1 on Dec. 13 & 14 when it hosted Denver. The Engineers are the second-most penalized team in the league but have the fourth best penalty kill (69/83) at 83.1%.

Junior Ryan Haggerty has 26 points in 19 games on 18 goals and eight assists as the league’s second-leading scorer. Senior Brock Higgs adds 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points and junior Matt Neal has 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists. Only Jacob Laliberte has more assists with 14 and chips in four goals for 18 points. Sophomores Mike Zalewski and Chris Bradley are also in double figures. The team sits at the top of the league standings with an 8-1 record, its lone loss at home to Colgate on Nov. 8. The team has the top scoring offense in the league with 3.89 goals per game.
