Great Northwest Awaits Princeton Men's Hockey

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/31/13) - Princeton heads across the country making the journey from Florida to British Columbia as the Tigers travel to Vancouver to take part in the Great Northwest Showcase. The Tigers will play two exhibition games against Simon Fraser and the University of British Columbia.

This marks Princeton’s first international competition since the 2002-03 season when the team played three games during its trip tp England. However this is the first time the Tigers' have been to BC in the 113-year history of the program. The furthest West Princeton has played is Inglewood, Calif. when it competed at the Great Western Freeze Out in 1992-93 and again in 1994-95.

Princeton returned from Christmas break at the Florida College Hockey Classic. The Tigers lost to Maine and New Hampshire and is now 3-14 overall. Three-time yearly scoring leader Andrew Calof returned to the lineup after missing 10 games with an injury.

Junior Tucker Brockett sits atop the scoring column with 11 points on two goals and a team-high nine assists. Senior Andrew Ammon, junior Aaron Kesselman and sophomore Joanthan Liau have eight points apiece. Ammon has a team-high six goals and two assists, Kesselman has three goals and five helpers and Liau has one goal and seven assists. Senior Sean Bonar has played in 12 games and has a 2-7 record with an .885 save percentage and a 3.82 goals against average. Freshman Colton Phinney is 1-7 in his eight games and owns an .878 save percentage and a 4.02 GAA.

Simon Fraser competes in the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) and is currently in first place in the league with a 10-2 record. The team avareges 5.67 goals per game and limit teams to 2.33.

Nick Sandor is the top scorer in the league with 30 points in 12 games with 13 goals and 16 assists. He collected eight points in the team’s last set of games against Eastern Washington on Dec. 6 & 7. Linemate Jono Ceci has 29 points and is third overall in the league with 11 goals and a team-high 18 assists. Aaron Enns adds 20 points while Jared Eng is the team’s top scoring defender with 13 points. Andrew Parent and Graeme Gordon split time in net. Gordon has a 1.50 GAA and a .945 save percentage while Parent has a 2.81 GAA and an .882 save percentage.

University of British Columbia is a member of Canada West and sports a 5-11 record. The team most recently swept Lethbridge in a pair of games on Nov. 29 & 30.

Cole Wilson leads the team in scoring with seven goals and 12 assists. His 19 points is fourth best in the league. Anthony Bardaro has 15 points on three goals and 12 assists. Brad Hoban and Neil Manning have 14 points apiece. Steven Stanford has played eight games in goal and has a 3.56 GAA and an .884 save percentage. Matt Hewitt has appeared in 11 games and has a 4.03 GAA and an .871 save percentage.
