PRINCETON, N.J. (11/27/13) - The Princeton men's hockey team plays a series at Michigan State this weekend, as the teams meet for the first time in 33 years. The Tigers and Spartans will face off on Friday, Nov. 29 at 7:05 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 1 at 1:05 p.m., at Munn Ice Arena.

Princeton is coming off of its biggest win of the season as the Tigers defeated No. 4 Quinnipiac 4-3 on Nov. 23 in Hamden, Conn. Princeton is 3-8 overall and 2-6 in ECAC Hockey. Two of the team’s wins have come in the last four games.

Junior Tucker Brockett is the team’s leading scorer with 11 points on two goals and a team-best nine assists. Senior Andrew Ammon has a team-high six goals and one assist for seven points. Two of his goals have been game winners, including the one at Quinnipiac. Senior captain Jack Berger, junior Aaron Kesselman and sophomore Jonathan Liau have six points apiece. Senior Sean Bonar and freshman Colton Phinney have both spent time in net. Bonar has played in eight games and has a 2-5 record with a 3.42 goals against average and an .889 save percentage. Phinney has made four appearances, including both games last weekend against the Bobcats, and is 1-3 with a 3.84 GAA and an .886 save percentage.

Princeton and Michigan State are meeting for just the fourth time and for the first time in 33 years. The teams played in 1959 and 1969 at in-season tournaments and most recently in 1980 in East Lansing. All three games resulted in Michigan State wins.

Michigan State is 3-7 on the season and is on a four-game losing skid after dropping series with Western Michigan and Michigan Tech. The four losses came after a three-game winning streak with victories over Boston University and two against American International at home. The Spartans are averaging 1.90 goals per game allows 2.90 gpg. Special team play has the power play converting 12.3% (7/57) and the penalty kill at 76.1% (35/46).

Three seniors lead the team offensively. Greg Wolfe has five goals and two assists for seven points. Defender Jack Chelios has a team-high six helpers and Lee Reimer has five points on two goals and three assists. Four others: Mackenzie MacEachern, Michael Ferrantino, Joe Cox and Dean Chelios have four points. Like Princeton, Michigan State has used two goaltenders, however they’ve leaned towards their younger netminder. Sophomore Jake Hildebrand is 2-5 in the seven games he has played and has a 2.87 GAA and an .896 save percentage. Senior Will Yanakeff is 1-2 in his three games and has a 2.61 GAA and a .918 save percentage.
