Roberts Stadium • Princeton

Box Score

49:54: Princeton's Tyler Lussi scored on assists from Gabrielle Ragazzo and Gabriella Guzman

53:12: Princeton's Lauren Lazo scored with assists from Nicole Loncar and Fiona McKenna
Princeton out-cornered Richmond 8-1. Melissa Downey and Erika Hoglund combined to handle all eight for the Tigers, though neither goal was off a corner.

Princeton's Gabrielle Ragazzo took a pass from Gabriella Guzman into the corner to the right of the Richmond goalkeeper Devin O'Brien and found rookie Tyler Lussi for the game's first goal in the 50th minute.

Bonus Play of the Game: In the 20th minute, Gabriella Guzman looked to knock in a corner kick from close range for the game's first goal, but Richmond midfielder Kristen Lybert stopped it on the goal line.

• Princeton now leads the series with Richmond 2-1. The teams last played in 2006 in a tournament hosted by Penn.

• Princeton has won its opening game for the first time since 2008.

• Princeton completed a season-opening shutout for the first time since 2001, a 5-0 home win over Iowa State.

• The start in goal was just the second of her career for Darcy Hargadon, who started and played all 110 minutes of a tie against Lafayette in her rookie season of 2011. It was also her second complete game in goal.

• Hargadon had to make just one save in goal as Princeton outshot Richmond 9-7 overall and 4-1 on goal.

• The two-goal spread represented the largest margin of victory in a season-opening win for Princeton since 2003, when the Tigers beat American 4-1.

• Two freshmen got starts in the season opener, midfielder Nicole Loncar and defender Fiona McKenna. The pair combined for an assist on the second goal, when McKenna found Loncar in the corner to the goalkeeper's left, and Loncar found Lauren Lazo in front of the goal for the 2-0 lead.

• Just one freshman, Jessica Lee, started in last year's opener, and Lee was the only rookie who played in that game. Appearances off the bench by Jesse McDonough, Haley Chow and Tyler Lussi made it five rookies who made their Princeton debut in the opener.

Princeton will host Army at Roberts Stadium at noon Sunday. The Black Knights lead the all-time series 4-2, but the teams haven't played since 1997.
