PRINCETON, N.J. (7/23/13) - Former Princeton men's hockey player Mike Condon '13 recently took part in his first NHL development camp, with the organization that signed him to a two-year contract just months ago, the Montreal Canadiens.

Condon was noted as being a standout at the camp in a recent article in the Montreal Gazette. In the July 7 article, Pat Hickey wrote: "The winning goaltender was former Princeton netminder Michael Condon, who played 30 minutes and stopped all 16 shots he faced. Zachary Fucale, a second-round pick last month, replaced Condon and gave up three goals on 20 shots."

"There are always some nerves or butterflies when you enter a new locker room or organization," Condon said discussing his first NHL camp. "Having to meet new players, coaches, and staff can certainly take you outside of your comfort zone, however it's also refreshing to have a clean slate and fresh start. In terms of trying to make a big impression, I did not change the way I play or approach the game. As a goalie if you over analyze situations your performance tends to suffer, so I just tried and continue to try to keep the mental aspect of the game simple while having fun at the same time."

"A lot of my former Princeton teammates have gone to NHL camps and I asked them what to expect. Their insight helped but at the same time each organization operates individually, and nobody had attended a Montreal camp before."

"The biggest lesson I learned from the camp is the overall physical and off-ice commitment. At Princeton we obviously had a rigorous and challenging work-out regimen, however after listening to the trainers, dietitians, and sports psychologists at the camp, the training aspect of the game is so much more intense at this level, as is the margin of error."

Condon will head back to camp in September.

"I am excited to be heading back to Montreal for rookie camp on September 4th, and the main camp on the 10th. I haven't been made aware of my role within the organization, however I will be ready to compete come camp in September and fulfill any role the organization asks of me."

Condon left Princeton with the best save percentage (.923) and third-best goals against average (2.67) in the program's 100+ year history. He ranks fourth all time in saves in a game, making 57 against Union in 2012. During Condon's senior year, he made 22 starts and finished with a .923 save percentage and a 2.48 GAA. He made 30 or more saves in seven games and was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week on Feb. 12 after a sweep of Cornell and Colgate on the road, making a season-high 39 saves against the Big Red.

After Princeton's season concluded Condon played four games with the Ontario Reign (ECHL), where he posted a 1.48 goals against average and a .943 save percentage. Shortly thereafter he signed with the Houston Aeros (AHL). In seven games, including three in the Calder Cup playoffs, and had a 3-0 record with a 2.39 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
