McLean Wins Two as Men's Track Dominates Wesley A. Brown Invite

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (1/26/12) - The Princeton men's track & field team won 11 of 16 events at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational on the Navy campus on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The Tigers won the 60, 200, 800, Mile, 3000, 5000 and distance medley relay on the track. Wins also came in the high jump, triple jump, long jump and shot put.

Junior Damon McLean was a double winner in the long and triple jumps. He reached 6.89 (22-7.25) to win the long jump and a field house record 15.55 (51-00.25) in his primary event, the triple jump. The jump was just a quarter-inch off his PR, set at the NCAA finals last spring.

In second place in the triple jump was sophomore Nana Owusu-Nyanteky. He cleared 14.25 (46-9), while freshman Jake Scinto was fourth at 13.87 (45-6.25).

Junior Omar Jarrett won the high jump as the only jumper to clear the two-meter mark with a best of 2.04 (6-8.25). Sophomore Stephen Soerens was third at 1.94 (6-4.25) and junior Brad Pelisek was fifth at 1.84 (6-00.50).

In the shot put the win belonged to sophomore Scott Rushton, who threw to 15.34 (50-4).

Rounding out the field events was a fourth-place finish by junior David Coneway in the pole vault, as he cleared 4.65 (15-3).

Dual athletes of both the track and football teams, freshmen John Hill and Dre Nelson went 1-2 in the 60-meter dash. Hill clocked a 6.95, the second time this season he has run under seven seconds. Nelson was second at 7.07, while sophomore Daniel McCord was fifth at 7.18. McCord went on to finish third in the 200 with a time of 22.20. Junior Tom Hopkins won the 200 as he posted a winning time of 21.89.

Princeton went 1-2-3-4 in the 800. Senior Russell Dinkins came across the line first at 1:52.25. He was followed by junior Michael Williams with a time of 1:52.73, sophomore Bradley Paternostro at 1:53.12 and senior Michael Palmisano at 1:54.24.

Senior Michael Franklin was the winner of the mile, crushing his PR by nearly 10 seconds. Franklin ran an 4:08.39 for the win. Freshmen Sam Berger and Brett Kelly were third and fifth at 4:17.93 and 4:20.07, respectively.

In the 400, junior Tom Scott and freshman Travis McHugh both finished in the top five. Scott was third with a PR of 50.18, while McHugh was fifth at 50.82.

The Tigers won both individual distance races. Junior Chris Bendtsen clocked an 8:09.46 to win the 3000.  Classmate Tyler Udland was fourth with a PR of 8:12.53. In the 5000, the victory belonged to sophomore Eddie Owens. Owens finished in 14:38.45.

Senior Richard Sheldon was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.33 and went on to place third in the long jump at 6.37 (20-10.75). Rookies Gregory Caldwell and Bryan Oslin both finished in the top five in the hurdles with times of 8.70 and 8.91, respectively.

Princeton's B relay of senior Peter Callahan, freshman Brian Poirier, Palmisano and Pons won the DMR. They ran a 10:00.94, nearly six seconds ahead of Navy's A relay. Princeton's A relay was third at 10:07.59.

The Tigers finished second in the 4x400 relay. Scott, McHugh, freshman Jordan Myers and freshman Chris Crawford ran 3:25.98.
