Life on the Road Part of ECAC Hockey
Jashvina Shah, Princeton Packet (1/25/13)

While it may be one of the farthest, it's just one of the road trips the Princeton men's hockey team makes during the season. As a member of the ECAC, the Tigers are one of 12 schools located along the East Coast, a geographic combination that creates an intense travel schedule that can interfere with class. The approximately 377-mile trip from Princeton University’s Baker Rink to St. Lawrence University's Appleton Arena is listed as a six-hour, 28-minute drive by Google maps.

"It's definitely something you have to watch out for," freshman Kyle Rankin said. "Sometimes you miss some class. Being a freshman I often miss Friday language classes and stuff like that.

"But as long as you stay on top of things and communicate with your professors, I think you’ll be fine."

The Tigers don't just miss class — they often bring the Ivy League workload on the road with them.

"There are a lot of engineers on our team," senior Mike Condon said. "I'm not one of them but they certainly have an intense workload no matter what at all times.

"Whenever you look up on our bus when we're on a trip you’ll see pretty much everyone's working. Everyone has their headphones in and everyone's got their books out and everyone's typing away. Even when we get to the hotel we've got some guys staying up pretty late on the road to meet deadlines, especially during the year and exam periods."
