Despite holding the lead throughout the first half, a Lauren Carra basket with 2.1 seconds left lifted Delaware to a 59-58 victory over the Princeton women's basketball team Sunday afternoon in Newark, Del. The loss snaps the Tigers' three-game winning streak and drops them to 6-3 on the year.

The contest opened with both sides trading points, before a Megan Bowen layin at 16:26 lifted the Tigers to a 7-5 advantage. From that point forward, Princeton led for the remainder of the first half.

Bowen then headlined a 9-0 run with four points, as Princeton took its first double figure advantage, 14-5, at 14:13.

The Tigers would teeter around a double digit advantage for the remainder of the half. However, the Hens managed to respond and come as close as seven at four different points, including a jumper before halftime to go into the locker room trailing Princeton 32-25.

Following the break, the Tigers were tested immediately and succumbed the lead for the first time since the opening minutes of the game, 41-40, at 15:31.

Delaware managed to expand its advantage to three, before Mariah Smith made good on a three-point play to even things up, 44-44, at 13:43.

While the Tigers attempted to create scoring runs to retake control of the game, miscues allowed the Hens to find the advantage, 46-44, off an Akeema Richards layin at 11:31.

With less than six to play, Smith and Alex Wheatley combined to lift Princeton to a 54-52 advantage and set up a 10-1 run.

As it had been throughout the second half, Delaware fought back to make it a one-possession game, 58-57, with 53.3 to play.

On its ensuing drive, Princeton turned the ball over to leave the Hens 16.6 seconds to score the go-ahead basket. Delaware nearly expired the clock, but Carra found a final opening and drove down the lane on the left side to score the game-winning basket.

In the game, Princeton held a 41.8 percent (23-for-55) shooting differential to Delaware's 33.3 percent (21-for-63). The Tigers also outrebounded the Hens 43-38, but conceded 18 costly turnovers, which Delaware converted into 10 points.

Niveen Rasheed led the Tigers with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Kristen Helmstetter also had nine boards, all defensive, and scored nine points.

Seeing their third starting lineup of the year, sophomore Blake Dietrick made her first career start. In 37 minutes of work, she had eight points, six rebounds and four assists.

Princeton remains on the road, heading next to Villanova for a midweek meeting with the Wildcats on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
