LEWISBURG, Pa. (11/3/12) - The 18th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team split two games on Saturday at the CWPA Southern Championships and finds itself playing 14th-ranked Navy on Sunday for third place.

The second-seeded Tigers defeated Penn State Behrend 13-7 in their first game, which when coupled with Friday's win over Notre Dame College, helped them earn a first-place finish in Bracket B. That put Princeton into a semifinal game with Mercyhurst, the tournament's sixth seed, which beat Salem and Johns Hopkins to win Bracket C.

A.J. Galainena led the team with three goals in the win. As the Tigers pulled away from PSUB in the second quarter and broke the game open with a 6-0 third quarter.

Mercyhurst edged the Tigers 12-11 in the semifinal to relegate Princeton to the third-place game on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. Princeton's opponent in that game will be Navy, the tournament's top seed, which was upended by fourth-seeded Navy in the other semifinal.

In the loss, Princeton entered the final quarter with a 10-8 lead but couldn't hold off a charge from the Lakers. Drew Hoffenberg had a team-high four goals, while Matt Wever and Kayj Shannon added two each.

Princeton's top four finish guarantees the Tigers a spot in the CWPA Eastern Championships in two weeks. The event, which awards the CWPA automatic bid to the NCAA Championship will take place at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
