Men's Hockey Falls to Brown in Season Opener, 2-1
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (10/26/12) - Sophomore Tyler Maugeri scored in the third but it was too little too late as the Princeton men's hockey team fell 2-1 in the season opener at Brown in the Ivy Shootout on Friday, Oct. 26 at Meehan Auditorium.
The Bears scored once in the first period and once in the second. Matt Lorita put Brown on the board at 9:56 of the first frame, a period that saw the Bears outshoot the Tigers 11-6.
The Tigers regrouped at the intermission and limited Brown's chances on frame. A Nick Lappin 4x4 unassisted goal with 1:59 remaining in the second would push the Bears ahead 2-0.
Junior Andrew Calof found Maugeri for the Tigers' first goal of the year at 16:46 of the third. Princeton ran out of time to find the equalizer. Senior Mike Condon made 25 saves before being pulled for the extra skater in the waning seconds.
Marco DeFilippo stopped for 24 shots for the Bears.
Brown had a slim 27-25 edge in shots, although Princeton had the edge in the final two periods, 7-6 and 12-10.
Princeton returns to face Yale in the third-place game of the Ivy Shootout tomorrow at 4 p.m. The game will be webstreamed on Brown's web site for a cost of $8 - video only, no audio play-by-play. Live Stats will also be available.
