Powe '07 Acquired by the New York Rangers

NEW YORK (2/4/13) - Princeton hockey alum Darrol Powe '07 has been traded to the New York Rangers it was announced today. The Minnesota Wild traded Powe and minor leaguer Nick Palmieri in exchange for Mike Rupp.

He will join fellow Princetonian Jeff Halpern '99 in the Big Apple.

Powe has a +1 rating and nine penalty minutes in eight games for the Wild this season. Last year, his first year with Minnesota, Powe had 13 points on six goals and seven assists and 57 penalty minutes in 82 games. Powe started his NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2008-09. A native of Saskatoon, Sask., Powe has appeared in 294 NHL career games and has 56 points on 28 goals and assists and 196 penalty minutes. In addition he has played in 40 post season games, collecting five points (1-4-5) and 17 penalty minutes.

At Princeton, Powe registered 28 goals and 32 assists for 60 points and 180 penalty minutes in 120 games. A Tiger captain, he was a two-time winner of The Richard F. Vaughan Cup (2006 and 2007), which is awarded annually to that varsity player who best exemplifies perseverance and dedication to Princeton hockey. He also won The Blackwell Trophy for the 2006-07 season, which is awarded annually to that member of the Princeton varsity hockey team who in play, sportsmanship and influence has contributed most to the sport.
