Women's Cross Country Runs for Heps Title Saturday
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/23/12) - Eight-time Ivy League champion, Princeton women's cross country team sets its sights on number nine, as it hosts the 2012 Ivy League Heptagonal Championship on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The women's race will began at 11 a.m., following the men's race at 12 p.m.
The Tigers had a streak of five straight Ivy League titles come to an end in 2011, as they finished third. Senior Greta Feldman should lead the Tigers this season. She was the second Tiger across the line last year, seven months before she earned All-America honors in the outdoor 1500 where she placed eighth. She has been the top runner in both of the meets she has ran in this season. Classmate Alexis Mikaelian, an all-region runner from last year, was Princeton's No. 3 last year continues to be a scorer this year. Sophomore Emily de La Bruyere is having an outstanding season, stepping across the line as the No. 2 in two races and No. 1 in another. Jackie Nicholas has been the No. 3 in all three races this season. Other potential scorers include junior Marisa Cummings, sophomore Erika Fluehr, senior Abby Levene and senior Mel Newbery.
Princeton's biggest competition this year will be defending champion Cornell, Yale and Columbia. Cornell is ranked No. 7 in the latest national poll, while Yale is No. 22. Columbia and Princeton were also ranked at one point this season. These four teams also were the top four teams from last year (Cornell 49, Columbia 51, Princeton 94, Yale 104).
