PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA TEAMS: The Sports Network l Beyond Sports Network

After helping Princeton to a memorable 2013 Ivy League championship season, both Anthony Gaffney and Quinn Epperly find themselves on at least one Preseason All-America Team leading into the highly anticipated 2014 campaign.

Gaffney is only the seventh player in Princeton football history to be named to the All-Ivy League First Team three times, a feat made all the more impressive considering he has only played two seasons. A two-time first-team All-Ivy defensive back, he was also named to the 2012 All-Ivy first team as a return specialist.

His specialty remains in the defensive backfield, though, and he was listed as one of the best in the nation by both The Sports Network (TSN) and Beyond Sports Network (BSN). TSN listed Gaffney as a second-team selection at the cornerback position, while BSN listed him as a third-team honoree.

Gaffney, who has started every game of his collegiate career at cornerback, has 57 tackles, 12 breakups and five interceptions in his career. He saw fewer opportunities last season as opposing offenses simply chose to stay away from Gaffney; with an experienced backfield returning, including cornerback John Hill and safety Matt Arends, as well the comeback of 14-game starter Khamal Brown, offenses could have a difficult time choosing where to throw the ball.

Epperly, the reigning Bushnell Cup recipient as the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year, was named a third-team honoree by BSN. Following a historic junior season, when he threw for 25 touchdowns and rushed for 19 more, Epperly will be looking to lead Princeton to back-to-back Ivy League championships for the first time in 50 years.

Epperly already ranks eighth all-time in total offense at Princeton (3,975 yards), and if he matches his total from last season, he would rank second only to Doug Butler. He ranks ninth at Princeton in career passing yards (2,876), and he would move to third on that list if he matched his 2013 total.

BSN also listed its Preseason All-Ivy League team, and Princeton had an Ivy-best seven honorees. Joining Epperly and Gaffney on that team are wide receivers Seth DeValve and Connor Kelley, offensive tackle Spenser Huston, running back Di Andre Atwater and return specialist Max Lescano.
