PRINCETON, N.J. (2/1/13) - The Princeton women's hockey team
won its second straight game in a 3-1 ECAC Hockey victory over Yale on Friday,
Feb. 1 at Hobey Baker Rink.
All three Princeton goals came in the third period. Juniors Denna Laing and Sally Butler would each finish with a two-point night.
Yale took the lead on a goal by Stephanie Mock with less
than two minutes to play in the second period after back-to-back saves by
Princeton netminder Kimberly Newell.
Laing tied the game at 1-1 on her second goal of the season, with help from
Butler at 7:07 of the second period.
Freshman Cristin Shanahan scored her first career in timely
fashion as she tallied the game-winning goal at 10:53. Junior Alex Kinney and
sophomore Brianna Leahy earned assists on the goal.
Eleven seconds after Yale pulled goalie Jaimie Leonoff,
Butler iced the win with an empty-net goal. Junior Olivia Mucha and Laing were credited with the
assists.
Newell made 28 saves in her seventh win of the season. Leonoff
stopped 25 shots for Yale.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 8-12-2 overall and 3-10-2
in the ECAC. It moves Princeton into playoff contention as the Tigers are now eighth place in the league standings.
Princeton hosts Brown tomorrow, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m.
