An early offensive output surged the No. 16 Princeton men's water polo team past Johns Hopkins, 14-6, Saturday evening at DeNunzio Pool, following its overtime thriller versus No. 14 Navy. A fourth quarter rally by the Tigers to force extra minutes was not enough, as the Midshipmen edged Princeton, 14-13 in double overtime.

Versus the Mids, Drew Hoffenberg and Kayj Shannon led the way with four goals apiece, while freshman goalie Alex Gow tallied 15 saves.

Both sides would be even paced over the first quarter, 4-4, before Navy would take control before halftime.

Down 6-5 entering the third, Princeton worked to find the momentum to earn its first advantage over the Midshipmen. Despite the Tigers' efforts, Princeton and Navy would each find the back of the net three times in the quarter.

Gow made five saves in the fourth quarter, limiting Navy to three goals, as the offense looked to find the advantage. Princeton did manage to square things up with a 4-3 run to force overtime.

In the first overtime period Navy managed to find the back of the net twice, holding a 14-12 advantage. It would be enough, as Princeton was only able to muster one goal in the second overtime period.

After falling it in its first overtime game of the year, Princeton responded with an all-around victory versus the JHU Blue Jays.

The Tigers jumped out immediately with a 4-1 rally to open the game and went into halftime holding a 7-2 lead. During that span, goalie Gow made seven saves to hold off the Johns Hopkins' attack.

In the second half, Princeton's offense continued to connect with the back of the net, going on a 4-1 run. Gow continued to play superbly, blocking six Blue Jay shots on frame.

The game wrapped up with both sides scoring three goals apiece.

Shannon had a team-leading four goals versus JHU, bringing his total to eight on the day.

Hoffenberg had three goals, while Kurt Buchbinder, Matt Weber and Tim Wenzlau each had two goals.

Defensively, Gow finished with 13 saves over 26 minutes of work and Brendan Byrne had a pair of saves in his fourth quarter minutes.

Princeton (10-9, 4-2 Southern) heads next to Lewisburg, Pa. to face Bucknell tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m.
