Andrew Starks, one of the Ivy League's top tacklers over the last three years and co-captain of the 2012 Princeton football team, signed an NFL contract with the Chicago Bears Friday.

Starks, a multiple-time All-Ivy League honoree, led Princeton and finished second in the league with 96 tackles last season; he capped his career with a 16-stop effort in the season finale against Dartmouth. The 2012 co-captain led Princeton in tackles during both the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Starks made 265 tackles during three seasons as a starter; he ranked second in the Ivy League in tackles last season, and he ranked fourth during both the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

After his Princeton Pro Day, the Plainfield, Ill., native earned an invitation to the Chicago Bears mini-camp.

"I couldn't be any more excited for Andrew," head coach Bob Surace said. "He is a tireless worker who made a big jump last year in terms of impact plays for our defense, and both his leadership and on-field play helped us improve by four wins last season."

Starks joins fellow 2012 co-captain Mike Catapano in the NFL; Catapano, a seventh-round draft choice last spring, is currently with the Kansas City Chiefs.
