Women's Volleyball Takes a Set from Yale; Falls 3-1 on the Road

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (10/12/13) – The Princeton women’s volleyball team pulled off a win in the first set against Yale, but the Bulldogs rallied to win the next three to take a 3-1 match on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Lee Amphitheater.

The Tigers began the match by taking a 25-21 set from the defending Ivy League champions. It was just the second set the Bulldogs have yielded in Ivy League play since November 2, 2012. Yale answered winning 25-16, 25-14 and 25-15 in the next three sets.

Junior Nicole Kincade recorded three services aces in the first set and had one kill, while freshman Lauren Miller collected 10 assists. Freshman Cara Mattaliano had three kills, while junior Sarah Hanna, junior Tiana Woolridge and sophomore Kendall Peterkind had two apiece. After a kill by Woolridge gave Princeton match point, at 24-16, Yale rattled off the next five points. Mattaliano ended the run on an assist from Woolridge to secure the Princeton victory, 25-21.

Overall, Peterkin led the Tigers with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Mattaliano had 11 kills and 11 digs. Miller finished the match with 32 assists. Princeton is now 6-9 on the season and 2-3 in league play.

For Yale it was Kendall Polan leading the way with 33 assists and 17 digs. Maddie Rudnick matched her with 17 digs. Mollie Rogers and Kelly Johnson each had 13 kills, while McHaney Carter put up six blocks. Yale improves to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the Ivy League.

The Tigers return home next weekend to host Dartmouth and Harvard. First up is a Friday night match with the Big Green at 7 p.m, at Dillon Gym.
