Dudas Named USFCA Collegiate Varsity Fencing Coach of the Year

Zoltan Dudas, with 2013 NCAA All-America honorees Ambika Singh and Eve Levin, was honored as the USFCA Collegiate Varsity Fencing Coach of the Year.

Princeton mentor Zoltan Dudas has been named the United States Fencing Association Collegiate Varsity Coach of the Year, the organization has announced.

The honor comes after a year in which Dudas, along with assistant and fellow weapon coaches Szilvia Voros and Hristo Hristov, led Princeton to its first NCAA championship of the combined men's/women's era (since 1990) and second NCAA fencing team title overall after the men won in 1964.

Ten of the team's 12 NCAA finals competitors earned All-America honors, and six advanced to the medal round with saberist Eliza Stone winning the program's second women's NCAA individual fencing title.

Dudas led the Princeton women to their fourth straight Ivy League championship, a feat unaccomplished since the 1980s in women's fencing, while the teams went a combined 38-7 overall in dual matches in the 2012-13 season. The women's team set a program record with 29 dual-match victories.

Heading into his eighth year as Princeton's head coach, Dudas will likely become the women's program's all-time winningest coach in 2013-14. His 136 women's dual-match victories are second to the program's only other coach, Michel Sebastiani, who had 141 wins from the program's inception in 1988 through his retirement in 2006. His 117 men's victories are third all-time, behind Stan Sieja's 258 (1946-82) and Sebastiani's 213 (1982-2006).
