In its CWPA Southern Division opener, the No. 12 Princeton
women's water polo team took care of business by handing Brown a 15-4 defeat
Friday at DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers established the initial advantage and limited the
Bears' offense all night.
A highly efficient offensive performance to go along with
solid play on the defensive end, Princeton connected on 15-of-20 shot attempts
in the win. Ashley Hatcher, Katie Rigler and Brittany Zwirner notched three
apiece, in a match that saw contributions throughout the lineup.
The Tigers opened with a 2-0 run and ended the first quarter
with a 4-2 lead. Brown would only find the back of the net twice more against a
sturdy backline.
Goalie Ashleigh Johnson (7-2) had another superb performance
in the cage, tallying 18 saves along with a steal in the winning effort.
Princeton (7-2, 1-0 Southern) now prepares for a weekend at
the Villanova-hosted CWPA/MAAC Crossover. The Tigers faceoff with Siena and
Iona on Saturday, before concluding the tournament Sunday with Wagner and
Villanova.
