No. 20 Michigan dealt the Princeton men's tennis team a 5-2 defeat Friday night in Ann Arbor, Mich., dropping the Tigers to 1-1 on the new season. The team's final match in Michigan will take place Saturday at 2 p.m. at No. 40 Michigan State.

Michigan won the doubles point two matches to one and got a big victory when its top player, Evan King, beat Princeton's ace, national No. 2 Matija Pecotic, 6-0, 6-1. Princeton's wins came from Zack McCourt on a retirement at second singles and a third-set tiebreaker win for Jonathan Carcione at sixth singles.

"I'm proud of the way we fought," Princeton head coach Billy Pate said. "We had our chances, starting with doubles. Michigan played well and is a very strong team throughout their lineup. I think with Michigan having a few more early season matches under its belt, it showed in their confidence and ability to control the momentum. We're going to continue to improve in that area and this experience will benefit us. Evan King played lights out at No. 1 and Matija just didn't get into the match. That will be a very rare occurrence for him but sometimes you have those days. We'll be ready for Michigan State on Saturday."
