Fencers to Open Dual Season Saturday at Vassar Meet
The Princeton fencing teams will head to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Saturday for a day of dual meets hosted by Vassar College, the first dual meets of the 2012-13 season.
Princeton's men will enter the day with a win streak of 19 dual meet matches, while the Tiger women have won 15 duals in a row.
Princeton last competed in a day of dual meets at Vassar early in the 2008-09 season, going 4-1 with wins over Harvard, NYU, Sacred Heart and Vassar on the men's side and 2-3 on the women's side with wins over NYU and Vassar and losses to Harvard, Penn State and Temple.
Princeton will start the day at 11 a.m. against Sacred Heart, then follow with matches against NYU at 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. vs. Vassar, 2:30 pm. vs. Penn State and 4:30 p.m. vs. North Carolina.
New polls will be out in January, but the Princeton men ended the season ranked No. 2 in the nation with Penn State fifth and Sacred Heart 10th. The women were ranked No. 1 in the final poll on March 20, with Penn State fourth, among the teams Princeton will face this weekend.
The Tiger men return four of their six competitors at the NCAA championship, including individual epee NCAA champion Jonathan Yergler, Edward Kelley, Philip Dershwitz and Robert Stone. The Princeton women return all six of their NCAA competitors, including Eliza Stone, Diamond Wheeler, Eve Levin, Ambika Singh, Hannah Safford and Katharine Holmes.
