The Princeton fencing teams received high billing in the first CollegeFencing360.com poll of the new season.

The Princeton fencing teams are well regarded on a national level, the initial CollegeFencing360.com poll of the 2012-13 season reiterated Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The women's team was ranked No. 1 in the nation, while the men were No. 4 behind Ohio State, Penn State and Notre Dame. All seven women's and all six men's Ivy programs were either ranked in the top 10 or receiving votes in the national poll that the NCAA uses as its official poll.

Princeton earned its highest NCAA finish of the men's/women's combined era (since 1990) last season when it finished No. 2 in the nation to host Ohio State. The women, for the second year in a row, piled up more points than any other school at the NCAA Championship.

This season, defending NCAA epee champion Jonathan Yergler is one of four returnees from Princeton's six men's competitors at the 2012 NCAA finals. On the women's side, Princeton returns all six NCAA finals entrants and returns Susannah Scanlan, who took the last three semesters off from Princeton to prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games. In London, Scanlan helped Team USA to an epee bronze medal on a four-person squad that included fellow Tiger alumna Maya Lawrence '02.

Princeton's dual-meet season will resume Feb. 2 for two days of duals at Northwestern in Illinois. The Ivy League championship, where the Princeton women have won the last three and the men have won two of the last three, will be decided the following weekend at Harvard.
