NCAA Championship on Tap for Men's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. (11/21/13) – The Princeton men's cross country team aims to for another high finish as the Tigers compete in the 2013 NCAA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Princeton will be making its fourth consecutive team appearance at the NCAAs and 14th overall. The Tigers had the best finish in program history last year, placing 11th.
Princeton is ranked No. 18 in the final regular-season USTFCCCA national poll. The team has been ranked all season, earning it's highest ranking in weeks two and five, coming in at ninth.
Leading the Tigers this year is senior Tyler Udland. He's been the No. 1 all year and was sixth at boths Heps and Regionals. Fellow seniors Alejandro Arroyo Yamin and Chris Bendtsen should score as well. Arroyo Yamin was seventh at Regionals and 12th at Heps. Bendtsen was a second back from Udland at Heps with a seventh-place finish and was 17th at Regionals. Junior Sam Pons edged Bendsten for the No. 3 spot at Regionals, finsihed 11th overall and was 15th at Heps. Junior Eddie Owens was the final scorer for the Tigers at Regionals and junior Matt McDonald was the No. 5 at Heps. All six of these runners competed at NCAAs last year: Bendtsen (43rd), Arroyo Yamin (58th), Udland (79th), McDonald (151st) and Owens (160th). Sophomore Brett Kelly will make his first championship appearance to round out the Tiger seven.
The 10k race will be held at LaVerne Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The race will begin at noon (ET). A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from 11:55-1:30 p.m., on NCAA.com.
Princeton will also send a contingent to the IC4A Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. The 5-mile race is scheduled for an 10:15 a.m., start.
