The No. 15 Princeton men’s water polo team concluded the home slate and regular season with wins over Fordham, 11-6, and Iona, 13-9, Saturday at DeNunzio Pool. The pair of victories sends the Tigers into the Southern Championship at 17-4, 7-1 Southern, including a perfect 9-0 record at home.

On Senior Day, it coincidently was freshman Jovan Jeremic who captained the offense with nine goals. Jeremic had a hat trick versus Fordham and tallied six versus Iona, marking the 10th time this year he scored three goals or more in a game.

As for the Class of 2014, the seven-player group each contributed in both victories. Kurt Buchbinder led the seniors with four assists, three steals and a goal, while A.J. Galainena had two steals and Tyler Amina notched eight saves over 18:46-minutes of work versus Iona.

Princeton set an early pace versus Fordham in the opening game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first. The Rams responded with a 3-2 run in the second, but it was not enough to swing the game’s momentum to their side for good and the Tigers closed things out on a 5-3 run over the second half.

Kayj Shannon joined Jeremic with a hat trick of his own and Sam Butler tallied a team-high five steals, along with two goals and an assist.

Closing out the day versus Iona, Princeton had to work to garner control of the game. The Gaels opened with a 1-0 lead and came back to tie it 4-4 in the second quarter.

Up 6-4, the Tigers created a momentum push to open the third quarter. Consecutive goals from Jeremic and Buchbinder and a pair of key saves from Alex Gow was enough to establish a scoring cushion Princeton would sustain for the remainder of the game.

Princeton will now prepare for the Southern Division Championship at Navy from Nov. 9-10.
