A day after putting on an offensive showcase at Dartmouth, the No. 6 Princeton field hockey team struggled to find its bearings at No. 5 Syracuse Sunday and ultimately was shutout 4-0. The loss marks the second of the year for the Tigers, dropping them to 4-2, 1-0 Ivy on the season.

Princeton returns home looking to rebound in its Ivy League home opener versus Yale on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. The program will host its Bedford Field dedication ceremony at halftime.

The Orange created a 1-0 advantage in the 10th minute on a Leonie Geyer shot that deflected in off Kelsey Byrne’s stick, setting the tone for the remainder of the first half.

Syracuse added three more goals off penalty corners in the 19th, 21st and 27th minutes, while preventing Princeton from finding any openings inside its circle.

The Tigers were limited to two first half shots, both not on goal over the final three minutes of the period.

Princeton picked things up a little in the second half, outshooting the Orange 7-4. Despite four shots on frame, the Tigers were unable to get on the board and suffered their third consecutive shutout to Syracuse in as many seasons.

The Orange finished with a 13-9 shot and 4-2 penalty corner advantage.

Sophomore Anya Gersoff (2-1) made her second straight start, tallying six saves in the match.
