PISCATAWAY, N.J. (3/19/13) - The Rutgers women's lacrosse team used a three-goal run in the final 15 minutes to surge ahead of Princeton and hung on for a 12-10 run on Tuesday, March 19 at RU Turf Field.

The game was tied seven times and the lead changed hands three times in a back-and-forth affair between the two New Jersey squads. The last four meetings between the two teams were decided by one goal, with each team winning twice.

Virtually every statistical category was even in the game. Shots fell in favor of Rutgers 26-23, Princeton won the draw control battle 13-11, Rutgers had 15 ground balls to Princeton's 14 and each team had 10 turnovers.

Katrin Martinelli had a four-goal game for the Scarlet Knights. Halley Barnes and Chrissy Schreiber scored two goals apiece, while Amanda Trendell and Melissa Arthur each had two-point games with a goal and an assist. Jenny Vlahos won six draw controls and Lily Kalata made six saves as Rutgers improves to 7-1 on the season.

Sophomore Erin McMunn recorded her second seven-point game of the season, scoring twice and assisting on five goals. Freshman Alexandra Bruno had her first career hat trick and senior Charlotte Davis tallied three helpers. Sophomore Erin Slifer scored a goal and an assist. Junior Caroline Franke made seven saves in her second consecutive start in goal and senior Jenna Davis won a career-best four draw controls.

The teams traded goals to start the game. Princeton took the lead, 4-3, midway through the half with goals by senior Mary-Kate Sivilli and freshman Anya Gersoff. Schreiber scored twice to regain the lead for the Scarlet Knights with 9:37 left in the half.

Senior Jaci Gassaway knotted the game at 5-5 when she put away a feed by McMunn at 5:39.

Rutgers added the next two goals in the next 2:18, forcing Princeton to call a timeout. On the next draw, Jenna Davis won one of her four draws and less than 30 seconds later Princeton found itself man up after a yellow card was assessed to Megan Clements. McMunn converted on the opportunity at 1:41.

Slifer won the next draw and fed Bruno for the goal with 56 seconds left on the clock to end the first in a 7-7 tie.

Rutgers scored twice in the first 4:09 of the second half but Bruno wiped out the Scarlet Knights lead single-handily with back-to-back goals to make it 9-9 with 15:20 to play.

A Vlahos goal and two free-position goals in a span on 3:04 swung the game back in favor or Rutgers, 12-9. A goal by Slifer cut the decifit to two with 10 minutes to play.

The teams traded possessions with Princeton forcing Rutgers into three turnovers on three of its last four possessions. Princeton's possession resulted in a shot wide, shot blocked and a shot saved. It was that final shot at 2:42 that gave Rutgers the final possession of the game, as the Scarlet Knights played keep away until the clock sounded.

Princeton, now 3-3 on the season, returns home to Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium to host Johns Hopkins on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m.
