The Men's Lightweight rowing team held its annual Fall Class Day race on Nov. 17 under mostly sunny skies and crisp conditions on Lake Carnegie. A deep sophomore class combined their efforts to take an early lead in the three-piece competition that they never relinquished.

This year's race included three separate "old school" stake races. The first piece was a four-mile piece which started and finished at the Harrison Street Bridge with a 180 degree turn around a buoy at the end of the 2000m race course. The sophomore 8+ of cox-Jimmy Li, Will Downing, Casey Ward, Fabrizio Giovannini Filho, Saeed Naguib, Sean McIntee, Matt Drabick, Will Dalton, and Bo Peard used a very strong inbound leg to take a 21-second lead over the second place freshman 8+.

Before the second piece, which was rowed over the two-mile Stuyve Pell course (stone bridge to stone bridge), the sophomores added Andrew Frazier to their lineup and stretched their lead over the freshman and the upperclass boat, which seemed more motivated by the shorter distance and the result of the first piece. This time, the sophomore class won by just 2.6 seconds over the upperclass 8+ and freshmen, who finished in a dead heat.

The third and final piece of this year's Fall Class Day was a no-holds barred, 1/2 mile battle which started at the stone bridge, had a 180 degree turn around the "small turn" buoy, and finished at the stone bridge. Adam Geilker, a sprint race specialist, was added to the sophomore crew which narrowly edged the second-place upperclass 8+ by 2.6 seconds, and the frosh 8+ by 4.9 seconds.

The final results of the Men's Lightweight Rowing Fall Class Day Races were:
