Eleven former Princeton rowers, including seven who were part of national championship crews, will compete this week in the 2011 Senior World Championships, held in Bled, Slovenia. Multiple representatives from the Princeton men's heavyweight, men's lightweight and women's open crews will be in competition, which opens August 28 and runs through Sept. 4.

Six of the 11 come from Lori Dauphiny's open program, which is coming off golden performances at both the 2011 EAWRC and NCAA Championships. The stroke of those crews was Lauren Wilkinson '11, a 2011 Von Kienbusch honoree as the top female senior-athlete at Princeton. She will be a Candian spare.

Wilkinson led Princeton to its second NCAA title in the last six years. Four rowers from that first national championship boat will also be in competition. Caroline Lind '06, another former Von Kienbusch winner and a member of the gold medal-winning 2008 U.S. Olympic 8+, will compete for the U.S. 8+ once again. Classmate Andreanne Morin '06 will also be in that event, as she will be competiting with the Canadian 8+.

Both Kate Bertko '06 and Gevvie Stone '06 also made the U.S. squad. Bertko will be in the W2x, while Stone is in the W1x.

The sixth member of the open crew heading to Slovenia is 2010 captain Sara Hendershot '10. The stroke of the undefeated 2010 Princeton varsity eight, Hendershot will be in the U.S. W4-.

"I couldn't be prouder of the men and women from Princeton representing their country at the World Championships," said Lori Dauphiny, the 2011 National Coach of the Year for women's open rowing.

Three members of the heavyweight program will also be in competition. Former Roper Cup winner Steve Coppola '06, a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic 8+, will compete for the U.S. 8+ once again. Coppola was part of the 2006 Princeton varsity eight, which won the EARC title and earned silver at the IRA national championships.

Classmate Sam Loch '06 will compete for the Australian 4-, while Glenn Ochal '08, the current assistant coach for the men's lightweight program, will be competing for the M4x.

"I am very proud of all of our Princeton rowers that have earned spots on the national team for this year's world championships," heavyweight head coach Greg Hughes said. "It's great to see so many Tigers competing above and beyond the college ranks. Steve, Glenn and Sam have all had solid international seasons so far this year and I am excited to see what they do over in Bled."

Men's lightweight rowers Christian Klein '11 and Robin Prendes '11 are no strangers to success. Both graduated this past academic year with two EARC championships and two IRA national titles. They were also part of Princeton's winning crew at the 2009 Henley Royal Regatta Temple Challenge Cup regatta.

Klein will be competing for the U.S. LM8+, while Prendes will be in the U.S. LM4-.

"I can't wait for Worlds to begin," lightweight head coach Marty Crotty said. "I am thrilled for Robin and Christian as first-time senior Worlds guys and excited to see how Glenn, Steve, Sam and all of our outstanding female alums fare. With all of the different boat classes and genders well represented along with enhanced coverage, there won't be a dull moment next week."

In addition to all of the Princeton rowers that will be racing, two former Princeton coaches will also be coaching over in Bled. Curtis Jordan H'83 will be coaching the Australian LM8+. His crew will be lining up against the USA LM8+ that is being coached by Dan Roock '81.
