Connecticut Defeats Women's Hockey 5-1
STORRS, Conn. (1/2/13) - The Princeton women's hockey team lost a 5-1 game at Connecticut in the first of a two-game series at Freitas Ice Forum on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Connecticut quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Kayla Campero and Michela Cava tallied goals at 1:01 and 2:16.
Senior Alex Kinney cut the deficit back to one at 6:59 scoring her fourth goal of the season. Seniors Kelly Cooke and Corey Stearns earned assists on the goal.
Brittany Berisoff pushed the lead back to two with a goal at 15:12 as the Huskies grabbed a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period.
The second period was scoreless with shots being nearly even, 10-9 in favor of Princeton.
Kayla Campero pushed UConn's lead to 4-1 at 5:09 of the third and Berisoff finalized the score at 5-1 with 13 seconds remaining in regulation.
Campero finished the night with four points, on two goals and two assists. Berisoff had a three-point night with two goals and an assist. Freshman Elaine Chuli earned her first win in net, making 25 saves.
Sophomore Ashley Holt stopped 18 shots in her first career start. Holt started in place of Kimberly Newell, who is at the IIHF U-18 Women's World Championship in Finland.
The teams will face off again tomorrow, Thursday, at 7 p.m.
