Hans Brase had a career-high scoring total for the second straight game as the freshman's 17 points paced the Princeton men's basketball team to a 62-45 win over Rider Thursday night at Jadwin Gym.

The win snapped a two-game skid for Princeton, which improved to 4-6. Rider fell back to even at 6-6 with the loss.

Brase was the first rookie to start for Princeton since Douglas Davis '12 made the last start of his freshman season on Feb. 21, 2009 against Dartmouth.

The Broncs led only once, at 3-2 on a 3-pointer by Anthony Myles, who went on to have a game-high 18 points. Princeton responded with five straight points and never relinquished the lead.

Princeton effectively put the game away by going on a 15-3 run over four minutes after the midway point of the second half, turning an eight-point lead into a 20-point advantage at 54-34 with less than seven minutes to go. Princeton's largest lead came in the final two minutes on a Brase dunk that put the Tigers up 21.

Ian Hummer and Denton Koon added 15 points apiece for Princeton, helping the Tigers outshoot Rider 54.2 percent to 36.4 percent. Hummer's seven boards paced the Tigers to a 36-20 rebounding edge. 

Princeton will host 11-1 Bucknell Saturday at 7 p.m. Since a three-point loss at Penn State on Nov. 23, the Bison have won six in a row, most recently a 71-65 victory over Marist Wednesday night.

Postgame notes

• Princeton owns the series lead against Rider 10-3. The win allowed Princeton to sweep the home-and-home series after the Tigers won last year 72-71 in overtime on a Mack Darrow buzzer-beating 3-pointer in the team's first-ever visit to Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville.

• Rider was making only its second appearance in Jadwin Gym in the building's 43-year history. The Tigers also won 69-57 in 2001 in Jadwin in what was the series' first meeting since 1946. Rider won the next year 62-59 at the then-Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton.

• Hans Brase had eight points against Fordham last Saturday in what was a career high, following it up tonight with 17 points. It was the first time that Brase led Princeton in scoring in a game.

• Denton Koon also had a career-high scoring total, topping the 13 points he had last season against both Lafayette and Florida A&M. Koon's six rebounds were a career high.

• Princeton's 16-rebound advantage tied a season high. The Tigers also achieved that margin against Lafayette on Nov. 24.

• Princeton attempted only eight 3-pointers, their lowest total since also trying eight against Elon in a 56-55 loss in Jadwin Gym on Nov. 22, 2011. In the 2010-11 season, the Tigers were 4-0 when shooting eight or fewer 3-pointers, the last time the team won a game when trying as few threes.

• Ian Hummer's 15 points moved him into eighth place on the Princeton career scoring list at 1,323. He passed Geoff Petrie '70 (1,321), who was a classmate of Hummer's uncle John Hummer '70. Bob Scrabis '89 is in seventh place at 1,365 points.

• Hummer's seven field goals moved him to 517 for his career, good for sixth place on the all-time school list and moving him past Pete Campbell '62 (516). Petrie is next at 530.

• Princeton leads the all-time series against its next opponent, Bucknell, 10-4, but the Bison won the last meeting 62-56 in Lewisburg last season. Bucknell's last visit to Jadwin Gym came in 1998.
