The second-ranked Harvard heavweight crew swept a quartet of races Saturday morning on the Charles River against the fourth-ranked Princeton Tigers.

The top race of the day featured two of the premier varsity eights in the nation, and the reigning Ivy League champion Harvard Crimson retained the Compton Cup with a nearly seven-second victory over reigning silver medalist Princeton. Harvard won the showdown in 5:59.5, while Princeton placed second in 6:06.2.

Harvard ended up taking all four races during the morning on the Charles, which featured a steady headwind throughout. The Crimson 2V finished in 6:09.2, eight seconds faster than Princeton, while the Harvard third varsity finished in 6:07.8, five seconds faster than Princeton.

The first competition between the respective Classes of 2015 went to Harvard, which won in 6:09.8. Princeton, which will look forward to a rematch May 13 at the EARC Sprints, took second in 6:17.1.

Harvard now leads the all-time Compton Cup series, and it has won six straight since Princeton won on the Charles in 2006.

The Tigers will head to the Cayuga Inlet next weekend to take on both Cornell and Yale in the Carnegie Cup regatta. Princeton holds an all-time edge with 36 Cup wins, while Cornell is second with 33. Yale is third with 20.
