PRINCETON, N.J. (2/1/14) – Sophomore Jaimie McDonell and senior Denna Laing both had two point games to lead the Princeton women’s hockey team to a 3-2 win over Dartmouth on Sautrday, Feb. 1 at Hobey Baker Rink.

McDonell and Laing both scored in the first five minutes of the third period that broke a 1-1 deadlock and gave the Princeton a 3-1 lead.

The teams traded goals in the first period with Brianne Mahoney getting the puck from Fiona McKenna in the corner and skated in to beat Lindsay Holdcroft at 18:12. The lead was short lived however as Laura Stacy found the back of the net at 19:01 after the puck caromed off of netminder Kimberly Newell’s left shoulder.

After a scoreless second period, McDonell started the third with a fury scoring just 30 seconds in. McDonell deked defender Zoe Brennan after getting the puck at center ice from Mahoney off the boards.

Laing used her backhand to go five-hole on Holdcroft for the game winner at 5:00 with senior Sally Butler and McDonell assisting on the power-play goal.

Dartmouth’s Lindsey Allen set up Eleni Tebano at 15:59 as the Big Green scored a power-play goal to make it a one-goal game. Allen had a breakaway shot saved by Newell but got the rebound and found Allen on the right side for the pop.

Holdcroft finished the game with 25 saves while Newell made 24 stops, as Princeton held a 28-26 edge in shots.

There were a total of 23 penalties for 57 penalty minutes in the game. Princeton was 1 for 10 on the power play, while Dartmouth was 1 for 8.

This is Princeton's first series sweep of Dartmouth since the 2005-06 season

Princeton remains sixth in the ECAC standings with a 7-7-2 conference record and improves to 11-9-3 overall. Dartmouth is tied for eighth at 6-10-1 with a 7-15-1 overall record.

Princeton travels to the North Country next weekend, Feb. 7 & 8 to face St. Lawrence and Clarkson
