H-Y-P LIVE RESULTS

Junior Oliver Bennett, a multiple-time Ivy Championships finalist, discusses training strategies over the break, his focus on personal improvements this season, and the upcoming H-Y-P meet by clicking the play link above.

From mid-October through the finals break in January, there are countless hours of training with precious few opportunities to compete for the Princeton men's swimming team. But when the calendar flips this weekend, that will all change for the five-time reigning Ivy League champions.

And what better way to start that journey than with the annual H-Y-P weekend?

The Princeton men's swimming and diving team (4-1, 4-0 Ivy) will head to Kiphuth Pool in New Haven, Conn., for the 2014 H-Y-P meet this weekend. The competition begins Friday night at 6 pm with 10 events, including the 3-meter diving competition and a pair of relays. On Saturday, the competition will conclude with nine more events during a session that starts at noon.

These three programs have combined to win 66 Ivy League team titles, including every one since the 1990 season. The last five titles have all gone to Princeton, which has a league-best 29 all-time titles.

Each team has at least one swimmer who has a best time in the Ivy League this season. Princeton sophomore Teo D'Alessandro set a program record and established the league's best times in both the 200 (1:45.08) and 400 IM (3:47.22), and he also owns the top time in the 200 free (1:35.54). The junior duo of Michael Strand and Connor Maher own the top back times this season; Strand has the best 100 mark at 46.68, while Maher owns the top 200 time (1:43.98).

While Princeton has won the last five Ivy League titles, this particular weekend has been very close over recent history. Both Harvard and Princeton have split the last six regular season meetings, with Harvard owning a 200-153 victory last season.

Following H-Y-P, Princeton will return to DeNunzio Pool Friday night for a 6 pm showdown with Columbia. The dual meet will serve as Senior Day for the Class of 2014.
