Princeton University and ESPN have extended their relationship through the end of the 2018-19 academic year.

Princeton and ESPN have had a rights deal since 2005. The new agreement will ensure that Princeton athletics will be seen on ESPN's many platforms through the end of this decade.

“We are excited that our presence on ESPN's networks will continue for the foreseeable future,” says Ford Family Director of Athletics Gary Walters. “ESPN has been an outstanding friend for us. There has been a real commitment to showcase a wide range of Princeton teams, and we have had the opportunity to show our facilities, athletic success and philosophy of 'Education Through Athletics' to a wide audience. It's gratifying to know that many Princeton athletes for the next few years will have their experience here enhanced by performing on ESPN.”

As has been the case since Princeton and ESPN first began their relationship, ESPN will televise at least seven home Princeton events each academic year on one of its networks. In the past, a majority of games have been on ESPNU, though Princeton is also beginning to have a greater presence on ESPN3.

Princeton has also worked with ESPN Emerging Technologies to explore new advances in many areas of production.

The agreement doesn't specify which sports will be televised, though ESPN has featured in recent years football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, water polo, fencing, track and field and soccer.

“Our rights extension with Princeton University will continue to add to a robust offering of sports content across ESPN networks, including ESPNU, the home of college sports” said Dan Margulis, ESPN Senior Director of Programming and Acquisitions. “We've enjoyed a great relationship with Princeton and are looking forward to having it continue. Our Tiger telecasts provide another great opportunity to serve sports fans.”
