BOX SCORE

Freshman Cara Mattaliano helped the Princeton women's volleyball end a five-match losing streak and hopefully ignite a November surge for a youthful squad. The freshman outside recorded 19 kills without recording an error and added 16 digs and three service aces in a 3-1 Tiger win.

Princeton dropped the opening set and trailed 22-17 in the second set, but the Tigers began to rally on the serve on junior middle Nicole Kincade. She ran off four straight points, including one on an ace, to get the Tigers back within a point. Columbia held two set balls at 24-22, but Princeton evened the score on a Mattaliano kill and an error.

Sophomore Kendall Peterkin, who finished second on the team with 16 kills, fought off a third set point, and the closed the 27-25 win with another kill. Princeton carried that momentum through the third set and won six of the final seven points in the fourth to claim the match and complete a season sweep of Columbia.

Junior Francie Jenkins added 10 kills with only two errors, while classmate Nicole Kincade added eight kills and three blocks. Freshman Lauren Miller paced the offense with 51 assists, and she guided the Princeton offense to a hitting percentage of at least .300 in each of the final three sets.

Sophomore Sarah Daschbach paced the defense with 14 digs.

Princeton will look for its first Ivy League weekend sweep Saturday at 5 pm when it hosts Cornell. The Big Red, which fell 3-2 at Penn Friday night, defeated Princeton 3-1 in Ithaca earlier this season.
