Box Score

Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the first, miscues by the Tigers during the middle innings allowed Rider to respond and hold off a ninth inning rally to defeat the Princeton baseball team 8-6 Wednesday afternoon at Clarke Field.

Turning Point of the Game: Princeton looked to be in control over the opening frames, holding a 2-0 advantage and only allowing one Bronc base runner off a walk. Things broke down in the top of the third as Rider scored three runs off a Jerry Mulderig triple. The Broncs’ one-run lead quickly expanded to 6-2, as they capitalized on four hits and two Princeton errors over the fourth and fifth frames.

Player of the Game: Freshman Danny Hoy went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of runs to lead offense. The team’s leader in doubles, the second baseman hit his 13th and 14th in the first and ninth innings, respectively. Hoy also stole a pair of bases, improving him to 12-for-13 on the year for a team-best.

Batter of the Game: Alec Keller went 3-for-4 with three runs and a walk in the leadoff spot for Princeton, improving his season batting average to .378. The outfielder also had a double and a stolen base Wednesday.

Pitcher of the Game: Reliever Danny Thomson tossed 1.1 scoreless innings over the final two frames. In five batters faced, the sophomore had a strikeout and gave up only one hit.

Nearly a Ninth Inning Comeback: Down 8-4 entering the ninth, Princeton began to put together a last chance comeback effort. With one out and a runner on first, Danny Hoy opened up the scoring with an RBI double to left field. Following an out with runners on the corners Alex Flink sent an RBI single to left field, but the Tigers were unable to keep their chances alive before conceding the final out.

On Deck: Princeton (12-26, 9-7 Ivy) concludes the regular season this weekend with a home-away four-game series versus Cornell. The Big Red head to Clarke Field on Friday, Apr. 26 for a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon. The series concludes two days later in Ithaca, N.Y.
