For the first time since 2010, Rutgers will make a visit to the Class of 1895 Field when the Route 1 rivals meet for a single game Thursday at 4 p.m.

The teams played last season in Piscataway, a 4-0 win for Rutgers, but much will be different from just a year ago. Only six of the 10 players who started the game for Rutgers are back this season, and only one of the two pitchers, relief winner Dresden Maddox, is back for the Scarlet Knights. For Princeton, like Rutgers, just six of the starting 10 from that game return. Starting pitcher Liza Kuhn is back, but as an assistant coach, not on the roster, though reliever Meredith Brown is.

Since the series began in 1985, the teams only missed playing once, in 1986, making the two-year gap between games in 2011 and 2012 the largest in series history.

Rutgers will be a challenge, as the Scarlet Knights are 17-12 overall and 2-5 in American Conference play heading into a non-league game against Seton Hall Wednesday afternoon.

The Rutgers game starts a very busy 11-day period for the Tigers that will see the team play 13 games. Princeton will have just one day off before heading to Columbia for a four-game series to start Ivy South divisional play Saturday and Sunday. Next week will bring Harvard to campus Tuesday for the resumption of a suspended and postponed doubleheader from two weekends ago, followed by a trip to Lehigh Wednesday. The weekend will bring Princeton home to face Penn for a four-game series Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th.
