Women's Soccer Ends Road Swing with Win at Saint Joseph's

Princeton outshot Saint Joseph's 20-11 overall and 8-4 on goal. The 20 shots were the most Princeton had in a game since Oct. 10, 2012 against Lehigh, when the Tigers also had 20 shots. Lauren Lazo had a game-high six shots.

 
 

Tyler Lussi scored for the fourth time in her five games as a Tiger, launching a ball from 30 yards out that found the back of the net in the 83rd minute. It was her third shot of the game, second of the second half and it came in her first career start.


 
 

• Princeton kept its series sweep of Saint Joseph's going with the win. The Tigers beat the Hawks in 2007 and 2012, with this year bringing the first game in Philadelphia.

• Junior Darcy Hargadon, in her first year as the team's starting goalkeeper, earned her fourth shutout of the season in five games played. Hargadon came into the weekend without having more than three saves in any of her previous appearances, but she made eight saves at Rutgers and now four at SJU.


• Tyler Lussi regained Princeton's scoring lead with her fourth goal of the season. The last time a freshman led the team in scoring at season's end was in 2009, when Jen Hoy, with just three goals, led the team. It was the first of four straight years in which Hoy led the Tigers in scoring.

• Princeton had its first penalty kick try of the season, but Saint Joseph's keeper Lauren Jancuska snuffed out Lauren Lazo's attempt in the 69th minute.

• The teams dealt with a light malfunction delay of 45 minutes that came with 29 minutes to go in the game.

• Last Thursday night, it was lightning, not lighting, that delayed the Tigers and that night's game at Seton Hall was postponed to Friday. It resulted in Princeton playing three games in a five-day span for the first time since 1993. This time, Princeton made out better against Seton Hall, Rutgers and Saint Joseph's, going 1-1-1, than it did 20 years ago against Villanova, James Madison and Dartmouth, going 0-3.

• Princeton's 3-1-1 record is its best through five games since 2008, when the Tigers were 3-1-1 in the first season at Roberts Stadium.

• Tuesday night was the first time since Oct. 12, 2011 against Lehigh that a freshman had the only goal for the Tigers in a 1-0 win. Gabrielle Ragazzo had the winner in that one.

 

 
 

Sunday at 1 p.m., the Tigers will host William & Mary (3-1-2) for the first time since 2001. The teams have met six times, most recently in 2011, with the Tribe having won five of the six meetings. William & Mary will host Penn Friday before traveling to Princeton.
